It basically reads the transparency of the lubricant that the darker, more contaminated and the lighter, the purer. Also reads the temperature of the lubricant at the time of the test.

It does work. As far as I can tell. It detects how dirty your transmission oil is. It uses a sensor to see how easy a light pass through the oil. It does work. It does work. Just like putting oil on a white paper towel. to see how dirty is is. This doe the same.
