What is Xenon headlight?
Xenon lamp (HID) is a high-pressure gas discharge lamp. Xenon lamp is a heavy metal lamp, by filling the UV-resistant crystal quartz glass tube with a variety of chemical gases, such as xenon and other inert gases, and then through the booster to the vehicle’s 12-volt power supply instantly increased to 23,000 volts, in the high voltage, xenon gas will be ionized and produce a light source between the two poles of the power supply.
The performance of xenon lamps has significantly improved compared to halogen lamps, and its luminous flux is more than two times that of halogen lamps. In addition, the efficiency of converting electrical energy into light energy has also increased by more than 70% compared to halogen lamps.
Light-emitting principle
The full name of the xenon headlights is HID (High-Intensity Discharge Lamp) gas discharge lamp, which uses the supporting electronic ballast, the car battery 12V voltage instantly raised to more than 23KV trigger voltage, the xenon gas in the xenon headlights ionized to form an arc discharge and make it stable light, providing a stable automotive headlight lighting system.
Xenon lamp breaks the tungsten filament luminescence principle invented by Edison, and fills the quartz lamp with high pressure inert gas-Xenon gas to replace the traditional filament, with mercury and carbon compound on the two electrodes, and stimulates the xenon gas to emit light through the ballast with 23000 volts high voltage current, forming a perfect white arc between the two poles, emitting light close to the perfect sunlight.
Features
Xenon bulbs have two significant advantages over ordinary light bulbs: on the one hand, they provide three times the light intensity of ordinary halogen bulbs while consuming only two-thirds the energy; on the other hand, they use a light color nearly identical to that of daylight, creating better visual conditions for the driver. Xenon light fixtures provide a wider range of light and greater light intensity, greatly improving driving safety and comfort.
Compared with the LED lights that will be widely used, their heat dissipation performance is better. Halogen lamps and ordinary bulbs have filaments, and xenon lamps do not have filaments, which is the most obvious difference between xenon lamps and traditional lamps. The xenon lamp uses the electric arc generated by the discharge between the two electrodes to emit light, just like the bright light of the electric arc generated in welding. High-voltage pulsed electricity is added between the metal electrodes inside a completely enclosed miniature quartz bulb (tube), which excites the material inside the bulb (xenon gas, a small amount of mercury vapor, metal halide) to produce light by ionization in the arc.
The color temperature of this light is similar to that of sunlight but contains more green and blue components, so it appears blue-white light. This blue-white light significantly improves the brightness of road signs and signage. The luminous flux emitted by xenon lamps is more than two times that of halogen lamps, while the efficiency of electrical energy into light energy is also more than 70% higher than that of halogen lamps, so xenon lamps have a relatively high energy density and light intensity, while the operating current is only half that of halogen lamps.
The increased brightness of the lights also effectively expands the visual range in front of the car, thus creating safer driving conditions.
- The general 55W halogen lamp can only produce 1000 lumens of light, but the 35W xenon lamp can produce 3200 lumens of light, brightness increased by 300%, with a long and ultra-wide angle of the wide field of vision, to bring you unprecedented driving comfort; so that the driver’s field of vision is clearer, greatly reducing the chances of driving accidents.
- HID xenon lamp is the use of electronically excited gas luminescence and the presence of tungsten filaments, so the life is longer, about 3000 hours, substantially exceeding the total number of hours of night driving. And halogen lamps only 500 hours.
- Strong power saving: xenon lights are only 35W, and issued by 55W halogen lamp more than 3.5 times the light, greatly reducing the load on the car’s electrical system, power loss savings of 40%, corresponding to improve vehicle performance and save energy.
- Good color temperature: there are 4300K-12000K, 6000K close to daylight, well received by the majority of users, while the halogen lamp is only 3000K, the light color is dull and red.
- Constant output, safe and reliable: when the car’s power supply system and battery fail, the ballast automatically shut down to stop working.
The advantages of xenon headlights
- The high brightness unit of brightness is lumens. The greater the lumens, the higher the brightness. General 55W halogen lamps can only produce 1000 lumens of light, while 35W HID can produce 3200 lumens of light. The brightness is three times the halogen lamp, so HID than other lights shine higher, wider, farther. It can greatly reduce night driving accidents.
- High color temperature HID lights can produce 4000-12000 color temperature light, close to the color of noon daylight, the human eye’s acceptance, and the highest degree of comfort.
- Long-life HID uses electronically excited gas light, no tungsten filament, and therefore a long life, a group of HID gas discharge lamps for about 3000 hours.
- Less power consumption HID power is generally only 35 W, while the power of ordinary headlights is generally 55 W.
- Good contingency when the power system power supply problems, HID will extend a few seconds before going out. Giving the driver time to deal with emergencies can significantly reduce night driving accidents.
